hill top report 8th oct 2017

Hi members,

Today we had clear weather with a light downwind, sometimes crosswind breeze for a challenging 200 yard rimfire event.  This time we used the target mechanism behind the butt, made possible by the donated frames from the Illawarra Service Rifle Club.  The target changers & scorers were behind the butt, which helped speed up sighting in & target changes.

Eight of the fifteen shooters managed to hit the Fly & receive the SSAA Fly patch.  Congratulations to the event winner, Jan with a high score of 227.5; 2nd place was last years winner James on 209.4; 3rd place Brian on 204.2.

For this event we only scored the 5 hole shots, next year we'll add the groups points score to the total.

Thanks again to those for helping setup the targets & benches.  Thanks to Phil & John for Range Officer duties, and many thanks Rob Hedges for the BBQ lunch supplied by Aussie Farmers Direct.

Well done everyone and hope to see you in November for the 100m Centrefire Field Rifle event.

Regards

Peter.

HILL TOP REPORT: 11th December 2016

Hi Members,

Today was our first attempt at running the F1 Goat Class shoot.  It was 20 rounds for each rimfire & centrefire targets, from the prone position.  Rests & bipods were used.  It was a challenge but lots of fun, with a bit more sighting time required for the longer distance.

We had 9 shooters for the 100m rimfire & 4 shooters for the 300m centrefire.  Some had a steep learning curve with new rifles & ammo.

I believe everyone was happy with their effort and had a good day.

Thanks John for organising the lunch & thanks to everyone for helping with the set up, clean up and scoring.

Regards and hope to see you next time.

Peter

HILL TOP Report: 13th november 2016

Hi Members,

I think most people used common sense on Sunday and stayed home out of that horrible strong wind but we had 9 shooters turn up to test their skills

in the difficult conditions and I think everyone was happy with their effort and had a good day.

Well done to everyone and many thanks to all for helping set up clean up and scoring.

Regards and hope to see you next time.

John.

hill tOP Report: 9th October 2016

Hi Members,

Many thanks to all those who helped make our first Fly shoot run smoothly and successfully after we worked out our plan to run the shoot with some input from the Sydney Branch boys.  It all fell into place and the day ran like a well oiled swiss watch. Thank you to everyone there for helping to set all the gear and being patient at the start with the signing on with Sports and Rec and a quick pack up at the end so we could all get home in time to see the last 30 laps of the Bathurst 1000.  The only thing that seemed to go wrong on the day was the strong breeze that came up every time we said "range open" and dropped off when we said "range closed" for a target change so everyone had their fair share of the wind but we all still had a good day out.

Congratulations to James for winning the comp with a score of 212.2, Keith was close behind in 2nd place on 208.2 and Barry 3rd on 170.1. Well done to everyone else and 9 shooters managed to hit the fly so they will receive a fly badge for their effort.

Well done and we hope to see you all next time.

John.

HILL TOP Report: 11th September 2016

It was a good roll up yesterday and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.  It was good to see more Ladies turning up and give a few blokes a run for the dough.  Commiserations to a couple of shooters whose targets didn’t qualify, for having shots outside the rectangle box.

Congratulations to Henri for qualifying for the Range Officers course, well done and many thanks.  Thanks to all the other helpers who do make the shoot a pleasure to run.

A lesson for me to be careful who I’ll let to use my rifle but Rob Edgar was a good sport and allowed me to beat him by 0.002 of an inch.  I think he let me win so he wouldn’t have to buy me a beer.  I’ll have to seriously think about buying some of the ammo he used.

Congratulations to Dal for an excellent win and Jack for a close second.

Rob shot himself to 4th with my Sako.

Smallest 5 shot group for the day Ian with a 0.239

Smallest 10 shot group for the day Dal with 0.428”

See you all again when the weather breaks.

Keep smiling and keep the powder dry.

yours Ali

PS Don’t forget to shoot your rifle in for the 200m Fly shoot next month.

There will be no sighting in on the day, I suggest a trip to Silverdale would be a good investment.
